What the Internet Looked Like in 2001
While reading Lanham, I started to wonder what online text looked like in 2001 when he wrote this. I googled some images, and here is what the New York Post looked like. :
I came across a site many moons ago that I had no real use for outside of novelty, though perhaps now it has some practicality. http://archive.org/web/web.php
It's called the "Wayback Machine," and if you insert a URL, it will give you cached pages. For instance, if you type in "owl.english.purdue.edu" you can see cached pages dating all the way back to January 11th 1998! I believe this service is still in beta, but it seems to be working pretty well.
